With some awesome prizes at stake (like a trip to D.C. and tickets to one of the hottest inauguration parties in town for the grand prize winner), this contest is worth entering.

There’s two ways to win: come up with a graphic design a clever slogan around the theme of “What are you voting for?”. This time, it’s about issues.

The contest ends on the 12th, so you still have a few days to get your entry in. Click here for all the details.

Well, someone’s finally gone and done it.

2008 seems to be the year of the type tees, with Helvetica and the ampersand taking top places as “the most used in designs”. So it was no surprise really, especially in the wake of the popularity in designer circles of House Industries’ Ampersand tee, to see a store opened dedicated entirely to the funny looking little symbol.

Ampersand Shoppe opens with different 10 font choices for your “&” tee, and while it really, truly pains me to see Arial among them, at least they didn’t do Comic Sans. (Yeah, you type geeks will get that.)

Right now, they’re offering free shipping on all tees until October 10th so go check em out.

Desired Hearts, a t-shirt contest site built around the idea of contributing to charity, has just launched with some great designs available for sale and to vote on.

Says the co-founder and creative director: “We’ve thought a lot about the industry and the other sites that are doing this (Threadless and Design By Humans). We never want or plan to become those sites although the general idea is very similar. However, the core idea behind Desired Hearts is the contribution to charities while building an upscale, trusted brand.”

“So instead of battling Threadless and Design By Humans on how much we can pay the winners, we’ve gone a different direction. From now on, we’re going to give $5 to charity for every shirt purchased. That’s 20% of all proceeds going to the charity of your choosing. We want to do this because it’s what the site and the brand is all about: showing the love.”

T-Shirt Factory’s new blog looks like it will be an awesome resource for t-shirt designers, along the lines of goMedia.

One of their first posts, From Raster to Vector Halftones, takes a look at an awesome technique to convert full color photos to vector graphics that are ideal for use in creating t-shirts:

“I am going to try and explain a method that allows raster files, such as photos or digital paintings to be easily converted into a vector format. There are several ways to do that, some take a lot of time, some are just as straightforward as clicking the live-trace button. The big difference is the result. A live trace will most likely produce an inaccurate result, too many colors or will just make everything look sloppy.”
